Xiaohui Yang

Licensed Psychologist

As a bilingual Licensed Psychologist, fluent in Chinese (including Mandarin and Cantonese) and English, I provide individual therapy for adolescents and adults, as well as couples’ therapy, through an integrative and culturally sensitive approach. I help clients who face a broad range of challenges such as anxiety, depression, stress, grief, communication difficulties, relationship concerns, interpersonal conflicts, life transitions, cultural adjustment, work-related issues, identity, self-confidence and self-esteem struggles.  I am particularly experienced in, and passionate about, working with first and second-generation immigrants, international students, and international scholars.

Couples’ work is also an area of specialty for me.  I am trained in both Gottman methods and Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT). Couples and I work together to address concerns such as communication, emotional distance, interracial issues, separation, significant life transitions or stages as well as pre-marital counseling. Many couples find it beneficial to understand their patterns and interactions and to deepen their emotional connection as well as to repair their wounds to achieve their fullest potential together. Couples can benefit from not only learning tools to better relate to one another but also to find safety in the relationship and an improved way of relating with each other.  This work can bring personal clarity as well as enduring interpersonal change.

My approach integrates Interpersonal relationships, Attachment theory, Emotional-Focused and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) theories that are multiculturally-grounded. I value and recognize the individual uniqueness of each client, so I tailor my clinical approach to meet each client’s needs. My approach is to work with you collaboratively and help you to deepen the understanding of yourself, find your own strength, and ability to overcome the challenges you experience.  I enjoy walking with my clients on their path together to empower them to forge their own way in creating a meaningful life.

I received my PhD in Counseling Psychology from Georgia State University. I received my undergraduate and master’s degree from the University of Hawaii.  I completed a pre-doctoral internship in the Counseling Center of University of Tennessee. My post-doctoral fellowship was completed in the Faculty Staff Assistance Program at Emory University where I continue to work in addition to private practice. I offer you years of experience that I have gained in various settings including universities, hospitals, employee assistance programs, and private practice.

I am grateful to each of my clients that include me in their journey of self-discovery, and I am in awe of you for stepping on to this restorative path. Any questions you have I am more than willing to answer about myself or the process before your initial appointment. I hope to speak with you soon!
