The foundation of my therapeutic approach is to create a warm, safe, and collaborative environment in order to explore and overcome barriers to living a full and rewarding life. I believe in identifying and utilizing strengths in the process of facing more challenging emotional and relational struggles. Together, my adult clients and I strive to understand how they perceive themselves within the context of their interpersonal relationships and to create a healthy view of self and healthy connections with others. Common issues that my adult clients face include worries and anxieties, depression, communication struggles, perfectionism, work-related issues, difficulties in key relationships, ADHD, and overcoming traumatic histories. I can incorporate the use of the Brainspotting method to help clients of various ages process through a wide range of highly stressful, activating and traumatic experiences that prevent them from fully engaging in aspects of their life.

My area of specialized training is in working with children, adolescents, and families who are facing a wide-range of difficulties. Many of the youth I work with are learning early in life to overcome struggles related to anxieties, ocddepressionself-esteem, life changes and transitions, trauma, school issues such as under-performance, perfectionism or avoidance, as well as body image, behavioral challenges, and ADHD. It is amazing to see even younger children learn ways to understand, cope and overcome these challenges! I believe sensitivity to the development and experiences of children and adolescents, and the ability to relate to each, is crucial to this work. I integrate creative play and art into our work to create an effective and natural means for children to express themselves and the turmoil they may be experiencing in order to find effective resolutions. I work closely with parents as well to also help them learn strategies to best help their child on a daily basis. My adult clients often find this area of expertise helpful to them as well as we can visit their own meaningful childhood and familial experiences through a developmental perspective.

Families and I work together to address many family difficulties or transitions such as divorce, blending of a new family, or any number of changes that a family may experience. I believe in helping to create and support changes within the family system to help the system function more effectively together. My primary goals in family therapy include helping the family unit to gain a greater understanding of the roles, perceptions, and dynamics at play, as well as increasing communication among members, in order to create their desired change.

I am a Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor. I received my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and my M.Ed. in Community Counseling from The University of Georgia. I completed a pre-doctoral internship in Child Clinical Psychology at the University of Louisville Health Sciences Center. My post-doctoral fellowship was completed in Pediatric Psychology at Emory University School of Medicine. I have been in private practice within the Atlanta area since 2003.

I believe it is important to stay connected with professional issues. I have served as a Board Member with the Georgia Psychological Association. I am GPA’s Past Chair for Continuing Education. I have served on the boards for the Division of Woman Psychologists and the Division of Family, Adolescent, Child, Evaluation and School Psychologists. I am also a past board member with the International Dyslexia Association Georgia Branch.

I conduct presentations and workshops in schools, universities, community organizations, and conferences on a variety of topics. Workshops on the prevention and intervention of bullying is an area of specialty.

Please feel free to call me with any questions! I look forward to the possibility of working together!
