I view counseling as a safe place and opportunity for a person to express themselves and try new skills without fear of judgment. Counseling provides a time where people can experience unconditional support and acceptance while exploring new areas. And, especially for children and adolescents, counseling should be fun!
My clinical passion is working with children (ages 6-18) and young adults in both individual and group modalities. Together, my clients and I address various issues such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, stress, healthy boundaries, frustration management, personal growth, self-esteem, grief & loss, self-harm, impulsivity and social skill development. There is no “one size fits all” approach for these challenges so my goal is to find what works best for each client and create a plan that fosters growth and positive change.
In general, I utilize a Person-Centered approach in order to create a space that is flexible and non-judgmental. I incorporate components of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a way to explore the thoughts and feelings that the client may be experiencing that accompany their behaviors in order to create change. Sometimes these thoughts and feelings are hard to verbalize which is where my use of play and art come in handy. I also love for parents/caregivers to participate, as appropriate, so that they can also be equipped with the skills and language to better help their child.
I received both my Masters in Education and my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of West Georgia. Go Wolves! I am a National Certified Counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor.
I understand that your child is precious to you and it is always an honor when I am entrusted to work with them!
